You may be able to sponsor certain relatives to immigrate to Canada under the Family Class.
People who come to Canada under the sponsorship of a close relative are classified as Family Class immigrants. Sponsors must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 and up.
They must demonstrate their willingness and ability to provide financial aid and support to the immigrant relative. If you sponsor a relative to enter Canada as a permanent residence, you must support your relative financially when they arrive.
Should be able to meet basic needs for yourself and your relative, such as: food, shelter and clothing. Most important make sure your relative doesn’t need social assistance.
Sponsor your Wife, Husband, or Common-law Partner
Spouse or Common Law-Partner Sponsorship
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada you may sponsor:
- • your spouse (you are legally married)
- • common-law partner (you are not legally married but have been living together for at least 12 months in a conjugal relationship).
- • conjugal partner (you are not legally married or in a common-law relationship and they are living outside Canada)
To be eligible for spousal or common-law partner sponsorship, you must:
- • be 18 year of age, a Canadian permanent resident living in Canada or Canadian citizen
- • demonstrate that you can provide for the basic needs for yourself and your spouse or partner
- • Prove your relationship with the sponsored person is genuine by providing supporting documentation.
To be eligible for spousal or common-law partner sponsorship, the sponsored person must:
- • be at least 18 years of age and not too closely related to you.
Super visa for parents and grandparents
Parents and grandparents can visit their children or grandchildren for 5 years at a time with a super visa. It provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years.
